About:
Dr. Takmeng Wong is a Research Physical Scientist in the Science Directorate at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. Wong joined the Science Directorate as a Research Scientist in October 1994. Prior to this appointment, he was a Research Associate with the Institute for Global Change Research and Education in Huntsville, Alabama from March 1994 to September 1994. Wong received a B.S. in Meteorology with honor from Florida State University in 1985, a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from Colorado State University in 1987 and 1994. Wong’s research experiences range from constructing complex climate datasets to understanding climate change and variability. He is best known for his work on decadal variability of Earth Radiation Budget. Wong currently serves as a Co-I on the NASA CERES mission and leads the ERBE-like data validation activity for Terra, Aqua, Suomi NPP, and JPSS1/NOAA-20 satellite and the research development of the CERES Machine Learning TOA Flux algorithms. He is also the data product lead for the NASA Langley Cloud Object dataset and the historical NASA ERBE dataset. Previously, Wong had served as a Co-I on a NASA MEASURES project to construct a long term radiation budget dataset for the past 35 years. He was the subsystem lead scientist for the reprocessing and reanalysis of the ERBE/ERBS 15-year Nonscanner dataset and for the construction and implementation of the time-space algorithm for the CERES Level 3 datasets. Wong is the author/co-author of numerous peer-reviewed articles and conference papers and presentations. Wong is a contributing author of the 2007 AR4 report by IPCC, which is the co-winner of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. He is two-time recipient of the NASA Langley Research Center’s H. J. E. Reid Award (2003 and 2008) for the most outstanding scientific paper at the center. Wong also received numerous NASA group achievement awards for his contributions to various NASA projects over the years.
