About:
Mr. Berkoff specializes in optical remote sensing techniques. He served as Principal Investigator for the Langley Mobile Ozone Lidar (LMOL) team from 2016 to 2023, Principal Investigator for the 2017 OWLETS-1 campaign, and is Co-PI on a variety of other research projects. His work includes managing LMOL deployments for six different air quality field campaigns as part of the Tropospheric Ozone Lidar Network (TOLNet). Data collected by LMOL have been featured by federal agencies, universities, and state agencies in a wide range of publications and presentations.
Mr. Berkoff also worked on various technology development improvements for NASA’s airborne High Spectral Resolution Lidar (HSRL) and served as instrument operator on more than 50 aircraft research flights in multiple NASA Earth Venture suborbital missions. While at NASA Langley, Mr. Berkoff has been awarded several Internal Research and Development (IRAD) projects, Science Innovation Fund, Commercialization, and Earth Science Technology Office (ESTO) Advanced Component Technology projects. He also served as advisor/mentor to multiple NASA interns and fellowship students as well as advisor to a NASA post-doctoral researcher.
Mr. Berkoff has 35 years of optical instrumentation and measurement experience, that includes the development and use of advanced sensors on aircraft, surface and marine vessels in a wide variety of complex field campaign environments. Mr. Berkoff has more than 50 refereed publications, more than 5,800 Google Scholar citations, and two patents for his work in the field of optical remote sensing.
