NASA Postdoctoral Program at the Science Directorate

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) provides talented postdoctoral scientists and engineers with valuable opportunities to engage in ongoing NASA research programs and serves as a source of talent to ensure the continued quality of the NASA research workforce. These one- to three-year Fellowship appointments are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology. NPP is offered at each NASA center and is administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU).
Research Opportunities

Prospective candidates are required to contact the advisors listed to discuss whether the opportunity is a good fit.
Proposals deadlines occur three times annually: March-, July-, and November 1st.

Applicants can be:
- U.S. Citizens
- Lawful Permanent Residents
- Foreign Nationals eligible for J-1 Research Scholar status*
* NPP Program Managers work with the necessary NASA and ORAU entities to get Fellows’ paperwork completed and badged upon the Fellows’ start date.
Benefits
Stipend rates for Postdoctoral Fellows start at $70,000 per year and includes a yearly travel allowance of $10,000. Supplements are provided for high cost of living areas and certain academic specialties.
Senior Fellows’ stipend amounts vary based on the location of the appointment, experience (number of years beyond the doctoral degree), and career achievement (academic rank and professional title).
